Wings trust was started with an aim of being a support to those who need a shoulder. It aims at the development of the economically poor with special reference to widows, deserted women, single parent children, and orphans. It focuses on the qualitative life.

Wings trust came in to being in the year 2005. Since then it has been undertaking developmental activities.
Our concentration has been in Namakkal as there are increase number of deserted women, widows, single parent children and orphans due to high HIV prevalence.
Namakkal district is located in the central part of TamilNadu. The name Namakkal derives from Namagiri, which is the name of the single rock formation at the center of the town. As per 2001 census, Namakkal had a population of 14.90 lakhs of which males constitute 51% and 63% of population are located in rural areas. Namakkal has an average literacy rate of 79%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. Nearly 2% of the population is tribal. Namakkal is situated on National Highway 7 (NH7), which is the longest highway in India connecting Kanyakumari to Varanasi. The total geographical area of the district is 3363 sq.km. Namakkal is surrounded by other districts like Salem, Erode, Thiruchirapalli and Karur. It has 8 taluks, 15 Blocks, 5 Municipalities and 331 panchayats
The economy of the district was primarily agricultural, but currently poultry, lorry transport and businesses related to their kind bring economy to the town. Namakkal is famous for its lorry body-building industries and poultry farms. With about 20,000 Lorries, the largest road agro-transport industry in India is based in Namakkal. Namakkal has one of the largest poultry industries in India (nearly 2,000 poultry farms are located in Namakkal). It is India’s 2nd biggest egg producing region (producing 3 crore eggs per day). It is also famous for sago factories. There is one sugar factory in the district. It is also a Hub of Bore well Rig operation.

Wings trust has always been concentrating on the welfare of the women and children, especially of the lower classes. Women and children are the victims of malnutrition and related diseases. NACO had provided nutritional support to the HIV infected people by providing health mix. But it was not used in a proper way. Noticing this miss use of the nutritious food, Wings trust planned a Sathu Mavu Mela (health mix festival) in which live demonstration was made showing them varieties of food preparation which could be made from this health mix thus make the maximum use of it.
During the programme varieties of preparations were demonstrated. There were fifteen recipes prepared. Hygienic practices during cooking were insisted. The beneficiaries took active participation in the programme and prepared the dishes known to them.

This programme was aimed at assessing the hidden talents/capacity of the children, strengthen them and enable them to develop these skills. All the beneficiaries come from economically poor background, single parent and orphans. Thus they grow up with inferiority complex. Through this programme the hidden talents are identified, encouraged and are motivated to build up a good personality. This programme was made available for the parents and the social workers. All the participants were given certificates and the children who performed well were rewarded.

Youth is the future and hope of our society/country. Modern media has a lot of influence on the youth of today. Thus there are no of possibilities of getting deviated from healthy life style, proper information’s, healthy values, etc. School awareness programme was geared at creating awareness among the youth/students on healthy life style/values, sex education and HIV/AIDS, personality development. The students of standard 10th, 11th, and 12th were given a preferential choice. The awareness programme was conducted by using power point presentation, real incidents, pre test - post test with the questioner’s forms. Students were given opportunity to express their views during the interaction hour. The students were given the contact numbers by which they could discuss any personal problems/doubts and get proper guidance.
We started the programme in 2007. And is in continuous process.
Students became aware of the realities of life.

The students felt free to clarify the doubts which they could not discuss with their parents or the teachers.

Gained knowledge about high risk behaviors and the ways in which they could easily be drawn into.

Contact numbers given to them enabled the students to clear their doubts personally and make use of the counseling facilities.

Education is the important aspect in modern world. Unfortunately most of our poor population is deprived of this privilege. Thus 30 students were chosen to give educational support like books, uniforms, school fees. 20 students were admitted to a hostel and all the supportive items like buckets, clothing, toilet articles, and play items were given. The students selected were those going to Tamil medium school, have single parent and orphan.
Poor children got the privilege of getting a proper education.
Financial burden of the family was reduced.
Tuition facilities and extracurricular activities are made available.
Hidden talents of the students are assisted and given opportunity to develop them.
Students learn discipline in life.

Counselling is one of the important treatment in the care of HIV infected people. PLHAs need more of counselling and support along with the medical treatment often they are affected psychologically. Through counselling they are empowered and helped to live with dignity and hope in the society.
Along with the care of HIV infected people it is very important to prevent the future generation from being infected with HIV. Most of the PLHAs are in the age group of 17 to 30 yrs. It’s are productive age and most of them wish to have a child of their own. When they chose to have a child great care is taken to prevent the child being positive.

Most of the HIV infected people often fall sick and encounter opportunistic infection. Thus they are supported with medications. PLHAs when encounter with simple infections drugs are provided thus they are treated at early stage itself .incase further treatment needed they are referred, care and support centers, specialty centers and are followed up.
The HIV infected are often isolated from the society and deprived of their legal rights. Most of the time they are not aware of their rights and the privileges made available for them by the government. Through this programme they are sensitized about their rights and privileges, whom to approach. We act as a link between the PLHAs and the Government.

Through field visits survey will be taken and assessment will be done to select the targeted group. Their needs, talents are assessed and they will be motivated to take up respective entrepreneurship. Training will be given in that particular line, and will be financed to start small scale business.
They will have to repay the amount in installment once they start earning.
Training on different computer programmes will be given and job opportunities will be made available.
Through this programme a link will be created between the targeted group and the companies, organizations wherever vacancies available.
